At the early age of the internet, innocent teenager me ended up on the website full of promise of Softonic. As for many of us, the perspective of easy free downloads quickly turned into a nightmare full of unwanted ~~mal~~software, stupid browser tool bars, dodgy pop ups and full computer wipes.

A single experience with Softonic and your brain flag them for eternity as the website not to use when you need something, anything. This was back in 2003.

Today, in 2025, I just found out they still exist! No way they even kept the same name/domain, I have 1000 questions:

How come? Do you still get shit when you download with them? How do they even make money while paying their charges and making everyone life shit? Why many so great sites get shutdown, owners go to jail, and not them? How do they even manage to rank into Google search TODAY? And just, how the fuck are they still alive, why?
