Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

I don't understand the various comments here and elsewhere that there would be spontaneous national riots to defend this guy.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 hours ago

Right? I don't see any evidence this country will do anything but sit by and take it. As much as i wish it were different

Trump is fucked no matter what he does to him.

Ignore him or try to obstruct and he succeeds.

Arrest and deport, riots across the country.

Kill him and those riots might quickly become armed insurrection.

That’s a nice sentiment but the fact most Americans are apathetic about trump shows they won’t lift a finger to avenge the murder of a politician.

Ignore him or try to obstruct and he succeeds.

I think a focused obstruction + unlimited billionaire backed smear campaign would have 50% of liberals and conservatives who don't live in NYC convinced this will be a whole chapter in The Black Book of Communism 2: Dialectic Boogaloo even if Mamdani does make positive impactful changes.

Public discourse will be constantly brigaded by an endless marathon of groypers whose accounts mysteriously stopped posting about sports 24/7 to give their opinion (aka repeating whatever non-sense one-liner they heard on alt-right media).

“This is not an exaggerated problem,” Giuliani told the 22-person council. “Somehow we got the combination of an Islamic extremist and a communist.”

This is not an exaggeration, the devil himself has incarnated on earth in the form of this guy who wants to do rent control and free bus fare.

I hope someone out there is also setting their sights on some positions of authority.

if he gets arrested i hope new yorkers riot

[–] [email protected] 7 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (1 children)

If they try to arrest him and don’t get him quick I think it would start a riot on the spot

Picture LA but instead of them grabbing random people off the streets it’s just one specific guy the whole city is out to protect

Also LA is a lot easier for ICE to move around than NYC

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

never considered that last line you said but thats very true. CA has wide streets with plenty of room and nobody on them. nyc is the exact opposite. also with nycs layout it would be extremely easy for protestors to set up on each end of a block and trap ICE in. if they’re willing to run thru the crowd in that instance it opens them up to even more potential violent retaliation from protesters. and since im not trying to be visited by the fbi im gonna say thats a bad thing but im also gonna say putting fear into these cowardly pigs with equivalent violence to what they use is the only thing thats gonna dissuade them from doing their “job”

I’m pretty sure it comes down to New York’s streets being laid out before the French Revolution.

DC is specifically set up the way it is to make building barricades and blocking roads incredibly difficult, because they saw what happened in Paris

We will be studying the New York City Commune for decades to come!

I was joking about him getting assassinated before getting elected, but now it looks like that might actually happen. I hope he's careful.

[–] [email protected] 27 points 21 hours ago

They’re really going to try to make an example of him, aren’t they?

[–] [email protected] 20 points 20 hours ago

I don’t know if he’s developed the moral vest yet. We may find out, unfortunately

Good, make Zohran the most popular politician in American history, the beloved local politician vs Big Bad Federal DC, an underdog story you couldn't get away with writing in fiction without accusations of cliche

[–] [email protected] 35 points 20 hours ago

He is going against the DNC and Trump, the two most unpopular entities in this country.

[–] [email protected] 38 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

What was that Kissinger quote. Something like "Democracy is too important to leave up to the votes of the people."

[–] [email protected] 16 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Thank Jesus he is dead, it took Jesus long enough

Well, after getting to do all of the evil stuff he wanted. So if Jesus is real, he gets like a 1 ^1^/~2~ stars from me.

I really hope Mamdani has a good security detail.

BRB making a libertarian sock puppet on Twitter and typing “I do not agree with a word you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it!”

[–] [email protected] 20 points 19 hours ago

Weird how it's freedom of speech when nazis run people over at their Klan rally, but an existential threat when anyone left of Bush says we should maybe stop killing homeless people and children. Really makes you think 🤔🤔🤔🤔

The council sounds like the Legion of Doom in this article

[–] [email protected] 20 points 22 hours ago
