Is this from the Punisher MAX run? Garth Ennis occasionally has a based take around being as edgy as possible all the time

I think it is from Max.
When the right sees cool leftist shit they tend to co-opt it without much critical thinking
Granted I wouldn't say Punisher is a leftist, pretty far from it since he still has a positive view of the american empire (he looks up to captain america for example), but like his whole thing is being a vigilante and he's the end result of a broken system. So it says a lot when the police idolize him along with the military when he's really nothing more than a killer.
I wouldn’t say that as a character he’s a leftist, I’m saying that the comics are at least further left than right
I just googled "leftist punisher" and found this stormfront post. Pretty informative.

Captain America is distilled contradiction. Reading him in something like his own runs vs X-Men is hilariously different people with the only underlying through line being American exceptionalism given form.
Don't forget him threatening George W. Bush for sending a kill team after him
Don't forget. I'm never more than nine milimeters away.

Imagine if a U.S. military unit idolized Spawn, would be crazier
Like, I get that he's ex-special forces. But he also gets betrayed by the military industrial complex and literally goes to hell for being a piece of shit.
Though Heaven and Hell are a bit arbitrary since they're in a forever war.
Actually, kind of makes sense in a fucked up way.
