Rules

While we are not an official Mozilla community, we have adopted the Mozilla Community Participation Guidelines as far as it can be applied to a bin.

Rules

  1. Always be civil and respectful
Don't be toxic, hostile, or a troll, especially towards Mozilla employees. This includes gratuitous use of profanity.

  2. Don't be a bigot
No form of bigotry will be tolerated.

  3. Don't post security compromising suggestions
If you do, include an obvious and clear warning.

  4. Don't post conspiracy theories
Especially ones about nefarious intentions or funding. If you're concerned: Ask. Please don’t fuel conspiracy thinking here. Don’t try to spread FUD, especially against reliable privacy-enhancing software. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Show credible sources.

  5. Don't accuse others of shilling
Send honest concerns to the moderators and/or admins, and we will investigate.

  6. Do not remove your help posts after they receive replies
Half the point of asking questions in a public sub is so that everyone can benefit from the answers—which is impossible if you go deleting everything behind yourself once you've gotten yours.

I just want a browser with which I can have several hundred tabs open with ad blocking and dark mode, that's all I'm asking

Fuck you for wanting simple things.

LadyBird, coming to you (finished mostly) circa 2028 or 2029.

LibreWolf has got you covered for it ships with uBlockOrigin. However, to enable dark mode in LibreWolf one has to disable Resist Fingerprinting:

“Why is LibreWolf forcing light theme?
This is one of the privacy measure that come with RFP (Resist Fingerprinting). Our stance is that if you care about fingerprinting protection you should never alter RFP behavior in any way.
If you still want the dark theme for web content, check whether your favourite websites allow to set it manually.”

Damn, orbit is already shutting down? I mean, what do they have left?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I recall they said it would be open sourced when it left beta. I wonder if they'll still release it once it's defunct.

They said Pocket would be open sourced when they bought it seven years ago

Any day now...

it's going to let you use ~~glorified autocorrect~~ AI of your choice in a sidebar instead, so it's not like it's fully gone

I moved to Waterfox months ago, partly because I don’t need those extra services, or ads for them, baked into my browser.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 weeks ago

People use other Firefox services??

Hey, remember when Mozilla made that thing that gave them their name ? Good times. Point is, Mozilla's actual name represents it giving up on something.

Thanks to Mozilla for giving us all these things, and showing us that they are possible to make and use.

Want them to stay alive, then give Mozilla some money. It's typical childish to blame the free software, to not spend a lot of money to keep your behind cost-free...

You technically cannot give Firefox money. It's grabbed by the CEO for his salary.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

You should, technically, take a look at their report of money-spending... But hey, feel free to support anything else. The big tech companies loves a divided opposition.

In 2024 they gave $26M to leadership development, AI, climate justice, ethics, art, etc. They dont even mention Firefox. They still have a CEO too that gets a lot of that money.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

And the CEO get's too much money in general. Still, they are "the" leader of the Open Source solutions, and not just in the browser area...

Sounds good for Firefox and Mozilla. I support it.
