Hmm. That wouldn't tell us about the flash, though.
I'm thinking about all those photos of the brilliant oyster eyes, which it turns out IRL are pretty dull in the wavelengths we can see. I think the mantis shrimp are similar: they're only that glorious if you can see in UV, and I'm wondering if these are the same.
