Just finished my first week here. It's been exhausting but epic. I've probably walked about 70 kilometers this week which for my out of shape ass was rough. Prague is a stunningly beautiful city. I've spent hours just wandering the streets. My hostel was in Wenceslas square in the heart of old town, surrounded by ancient buildings. St. Vitus Cathedral is the coolest building I've ever seen and hanging out in 700 year old castles awesome.

I made a point of venturing outside of old town/new town to see the "real" city. Even there it's cleaner than any major US city. So far I've only made it outside of the city one day for some hiking but I'm gonna spend the next few days taking day trips to nearby cities and hiking spots.

I think beer has accounted for about 2/3 of my calories this week. Czech cuisine is entirely meat based and I'm vegetarian so i haven't had much local fair. But once you get out of the particularly touristy areas there's a lot of vietnamese and Indian restaurants and the prices drop quite a bit too. My next hostel has an actual kitchen so I'll get to do some of my own cooking and save a little more money.

I'm switching hostels today to a slightly cheaper place about 3k from city centre. Should be cool to see more of the locals hang out spots and such.

It sounds so fun. Asian restaurants are our best friends for real when we're vegetarian/vegan, I've had the same experience in Denmark recently.

Do you know for how long you'll be travelling?

I have to no plans to come back to the US. Figure I'll probably spend about a year in Europe then onto the rest of the world.

That's very brave and it sounds like good times ahead. I wish I could do the same.

Maybe I will, I gotta think about it.

Anyway, keep us updated on your adventures please.

Do it! It's honestly cheaper than trying to have any sort of quality of life in the US.

I live in France actually, but yeah I only ever feel happy when I'm travelling, so that's why I'm thinking about it to. Just wonder how I could manage financially, in the present and for the future.

Give Romania a try next if you don't have any plans. At least when I went it was maybe 50% cheaper than Prague and has some really beautiful places. In Transylvania you've got great hiking around Brasov, Timisoara has an awesome opera house, Bucharest has some fascinating left-urbanism, and 2 Mai on the coast has/had some really cheap hostels right next to the beach.

Sounds awesome. I haven't picked a direction yet but it's definitely getting to be beach weather.
