On Anime

While Anime is a beloved animation style with a rich history and extensive following, our focus here leans towards other forms of animation. This is due to the immense popularity of Anime in online spaces, which is amply covered by other dedicated communities.

This doesn't mean that Anime related conversation is not allowed here, only that it's not our focus. For a dedicated Anime instance, check out ani.social.

On Technical Discussion

While our primary goal is to discuss animated media, conversations about animation techniques and the process of creating animation are also welcome. Whether you're a budding animator seeking to understand more about the industry, or a seasoned professional sharing your experiences, you're welcome here.

With the announcement that lemm.ee will be shutting down on June 30th, this community will unfortunately need a new home. Do you have a place in mind, @[email protected] ?

As of right now, I don't have any particular instances in mind. It all has felt quite sudden. There are other things I want to figure out as well such as finding a way to transfer existing posts to the new community.

My immediate goal would be to try to get this move done within the next few days so we can have as much of the remaining month to redirect people coming here to the new server.

I'd like this to be the post where the community can discuss where they'd like to move. Do you have any preferences?

I learned today that Piefed potentially makes community migrations easier, particularly in regards to transferring existing posts as well. The mod of the [email protected] community may be taking that route, so you may be able to contact them to see how it goes.

If you'd rather stick to a lemmy based instance, Sopuli.xyz is (in my opinion) quite an excellent medium sized general purpose instance that's been around a while, and seems to have solid active admins that update to the latest lemmy version quickly. Its server is based in Finland.

Lemmy.zip is similarly sized to Sopuli, and is also a general purpose instance, though with a focus on PC gaming and tech. Not sure where they're based.

If you'd prefer a smaller instance, Lemmy.cafe has a solid admin (though it's only run by him, so maybe not as resilient to the bus factor). I think the server is based in the UK. I migrated two of my communities there many months ago, and it seemed to work out well.

a way to transfer existing posts to the new community.

Piefed has this feature: https://piefed.social/post/667045

I'm the admin for adultswim.fan and I could host the animation community on my instance if users are interested.

I appreciate that. Unfortunately my work has an auto block on that domain. It's stupid and not too difficult to bypass but it does add a small extra hurdle.
