My whole life, it's been like this and I've always been mildly annoyed about it. Now I'm 30+, and this still hasn't changed the slightest. I'm no longer living with them, but spend a good amount of time with them. In this post, I say "them" but it's mostly my dad.

Examples off the top of my head:

  • A few years back, they'd randomly walk into my bedroom while I'm there and:
    • open/close the window because it's too hot/cold
    • open/close the blinds because it's too dark/bright
  • Now I no longer live with them, but we work in the same space.
    • Randomly walk into the office while I'm working and switch on the AC (we share an office space)
    • When at my place, they might randomly start cleaning things (my place really isn't messy BTW).
    • Pressuring me into accepting furniture/plates/help from them while moving in (even lying about wanting to throw it away to start with, so that I'd accept it)
    • Specific example: we went to a restaurant and I politely told the waiter about something that wasn't right with the order. I'd asked my dad to let me do the talking because I know he'll lead it otherwise. I insisted multiple times on this before the waiter arrived. When the waiter arrived my dad stepped over me and did the talking. I had decided to keep the wrong order, but he insisted I return the order and get the right one. I gave in under the pressure.

This makes my blood boil. Even typing this makes my blood boil.

I know it comes from a good place, but the point is them making a decision for me while not even considering what I might want.

Is it normal that this makes me so tense?
