  • Brush: Zenith 506U N (50/50 horse mane/tail)
  • Razor: Koraat – r/Wetshaving exclusive Moarteen (15/16", full hollow, carbon steel)
  • Lather: Mike's Natural Soaps – Hungarian Lavender
  • Post Shave: Speick – Men Active

I shouldn't be surprised anymore, but Mike's lathers are shockingly slick. Really pleasant shave today.

This was a very nice shave, and again I'm surprised Apogee isn't more popular.

For all of the Shaving Data System users, a recent Baserow update changed the way some things work behind the scenes so I had to change some stuff around. At some point today I'll update everyone's templates (free of charge!) because this new version (1.0.9) is the minimum required at this point.

Some cool new features are possible now, though. For example, I typed these paragraphs in and the output will spit out new paragraphs (but you have to manually type <p> at the end of each paragraph. <p> is html speak for "new paragraph". A bit of a limitation, but maybe some users will enjoy it! I know @[email protected] was looking for something like this.

This Gold Dollar is visibly not straight -- I might start calling it a Curved Razor instead of Straight Razor. Nevertheless, it shaves!

Would this explain why mine wasn’t working this morning?

eta: Hope this doesn’t come of as snarky, just genuinely curious

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Fixed, BTW!

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Yep. The workaround until I get around to fixing it is to fill in all of the fields and delete what you don't need.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Very cool, thanks for the update!

Will it interpret any HTML tags that you put in the text field?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It should, yes.

You can upgrade to the new template anytime you like, I less I get to it sooner πŸ˜€

You'll know it's updated if the SOTD page says 1.0.9 on it.

  • Brush: AP Shave Co. Snakeskin w/ 26 mm Silksmoke Flattop/Fan hybrid
  • Razor: Leaf Thorn
  • Blade: Perma-Sharp half DE (fresh)
  • Lather: House of Mammoth - Tobacconist
  • Post-Shave: OAM sensitive skin toner; alverde men aftershave balm

-> 1 pass on both head and face. Mostly ATG on the dome, mostly WTG on the face. Great shave.

Today I postponed picking up my new car until after the exams. My stress levels were getting so high that even my parents began to worry about me, which is never a good sign. It's not good to have two big milestone events of my life conflicting with each other. I was at the dealership with my father, we looked at the new car and took some photos and I signed all the necessary contracts and made my deposit. Everything's prepared for next week, but until after the exhausting exams.

Anyways, back to our regularly scheduled SOTD program: after I mentioned HoM Tobacconist yesterday, I couldn't get it out of my head. So of course I had to use it today. What a magnificent scent, this could definitely be my desert island soap. I think FMoM is a close second, but still second. Also, Mammoth's Tusk base is a pleasure to work with: hassle-free lather, very fast and good slickness. I'm aware that Vida from Chicago Grooming does the soap base for Ben and I also never had a problem with any of her soaps either. Granted, haven't tried her newest base yet.

You know, it's kinda funny how now in the most stressful time ever I start to shave more and appreciate the hobby aspect of it again - finally! It kinda helps me to calm down and get my thoughts sorted, something sorely needed atm. Maybe @[email protected] 's sample letter was also part of igniting the spark again. Maybe I'll get myself a nice set when all of this is finally over in September. Thanks for reading, folks ✌🏻

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ha, glad I could maybe spark some subliminal thrill!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

It definitely somehow helped me to appreciate the hobby aspect again. Not really the FOMO and staying up late to catch a certain drop of soap or brushes - that's gone for good. But the simple enjoyment is back and that's cool. πŸ‘πŸ» Thank you very much πŸ™πŸ»

Easily the best 3-pass shave I've had with Moarteen so far, though definitely still had some knicks and irritation. Especially against the grain.

Hooray for decent straight razor shaves!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Little by little!

It’s still not nearly as close as my DE/SE shaves, but I feel like I’m learning how to approach my face in a saner way.

  • Brush: Wald Stratos Haunter 29mm A1
  • Razor: Geneva Cutlery Co. 6/8" Hollow Ground Round Point
  • Razor: Geneva Cutlery Co. 11/8" Hollow Ground Round Point
  • Lather: House of Mammoth - Beloved - Soap
  • Aftershave: House of Mammoth - Beloved - Splash
  • Talc: Yardley Classic

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

This shave was comparison between an edge created on an African du Hindi(?) stone and an edge created on a Black Arkansas stone. When I was using the African stone I was reminded of a Black Arkansas, so I felt as if it would be good to compare the edges. Performance between them was almost identical. Close, comfortable, and with a slightly crisp feel.

I always enjoy Beloved. It is a scent that promotes quiet contemplation.
