For a long time now, the phrase "live action adaptation" for any video game has felt gross and exploitative to me. It's like announcing that there's a porn parody of your game.

Didn't he also do Warfare right after? Getting those sweet, sweet MIC bucks must be nice. Maybe moving away from military slop will get him back on track though.

I love the golden age arc, but even I was glad they cut the whole wy*ad thing from the 1997 anime. Good god can you ruin the story elements with fetishes displayed clear as day.

Does the game even have like...a story? Or is a fromsoft game and the story is told in item descriptions or whatever?
Yeah it does. There are NPCs that do tell you about the world and your place in it but it's still pretty weird.
Without touching any item descriptions and only worrying about the main story in the base game, you get:
- The intro cutscene which explains the overview of the setting and how it got to be like it currently is
- Dialogue with characters like Miriel and Gideon, who are very knowledgeable about the world
- Melina, who helps you level up when you rest, tells you a relevant story when you reach many different locations
- Quite a lot of dialogue from Margit, one of the main bosses who you fight several times and who gets a couple of cutscenes, tells you about what's going on
- Basically every NPC in the Roundtable Hold has some kind of significant involvement with either a possible ending or a major faction and can tell you about it if you progress through their story
- The finger reader crones give you prophecies
- Ranni, Blaidd, and Iji will all tell you a lot of stuff that turns out to be highly relevant to the main story if you help them
- Jerren tells you about Radahn and Malenia, two of the main players in how the setting got to be like it currently is and also significant factors in why it is still that way, before you fight Radahn
Like, it's still a story told with very little direct storytelling compared to its peers, and there is still a lot of info in item descriptions. You don't need the item descriptions though, you just need to be ready to piece things together from what disparate people with strong personal biases tell you and what you see

The base game has a narrative but it's extremely weak, and most of the important things happened a long time in the past, as with other Souls games. Shadows of the Erdtree, the DLC, is noteworthy for actually having a plot where things happen.

I've never played a FromSoftware game in my life. I just want to see how /c/fakenews responds to this announcement.
Are they gonna make 75% of the characters bizarrely taller than the remaining human sized people or is the movie bullshit?

Probably will be hot garbage but I really hope it’s not a Videogame Movie™️. Like don’t show me Timmothy Chevrolet going “wuh oh guys! I’m out of flasks!” I would also love if the movie had nothing to do with Miquella or the shattering but instead of being a potentially interesting spin off or side story it will almost certainly be a clumsy retelling of the most important historical bits in the game. Or… oh god it could be a story of the player playing the game

Stay after the credits for the Zanzibart sequal teaser.
If it's just a remake of Civil War, but everyone is dipped in gold leaf, half the soldiers are Really Very Big, the white house is like the Mines of Moria after a jetwash, the president is the size of an oil tanker, and the photographers are actually making magic paintings, it'll be a masterpiece.
Edit: and to step closer to the lathe, the story is told by the descriptions on each Elden Ring themed snack you can get from the concessions. Radahn Rum Punch, Malenia Mint (and blue cheese) popcorn, blah blah blah.

Every follow up post release related to this game gets progressively worse and worse.
Ok? Seems like a struggle to adapt. Also who's ready to see some goofy as hell dodge rolls when they have an actor do it.
Wonder if there's any plan to keep the elden ring brand going, I can't really imagine another game that big being released this decade
Nightreign (a spinoff coop game that's sort of a roguelike) is coming out in like a week, so there's at least that.
Oh yeah I guess they are already doing it. My brain was just fixed on the idea of an elden ring 2 or another single-player thing.
