Why doesn't LM Update Manager (mintinstall) have BIOS updates for my Lenovo like GNOME software does? (lemmy.ml)

I can install gnome-software on mint from the repos and get them that way, so it doesn't really matter I guess, but I was just wondering . . .

BIOS files should always be downloaded from the manufacturer and installed from the BIOS

Any particular reason? I remember having quite a bit of trouble downloading/installing BIOS updates from the Lenovo website, but it's been a long time since I tried . . .

Security, a bios update from an OS has a higher chance if bricking your computer

It seems that mintupdate doesn't integrate with fwupd (yet): https://github.com/linuxmint/mintupdate/issues/237

If you prefer, you could also use Gnome Firmware instead of Gnome Software.

Messing around with GNOME firmware for the first time . . . next to where is says "Attestation: Not OK" if I hit the "Store" button it asks if I want to update the cryptographic hash ("record current device cryptographic hases as verified"--how do I update it?

EDIT: Hmm, not exactly user friendly, is it?

Yeah, it's not the most simple and user-friendly program out there. I guess it's primarily meant for more advanced use cases where you want to do more than just keeping your firmware up to date.

I have the same "Attestation: Not OK" on two different computers, I've decided to ignore it.
