For those that have had enough of the Elon Musk worship online.

No flaming, baiting, etc. This community is intended for those opposed to the influx of Elon Musk-related advertising online. Coming here to defend Musk or his companies will not get you banned, but it likely will result in downvotes. Please use the reporting feature if you see a rule violation.

Opinions from all sides of the political spectrum are welcome here. However, we kindly ask that off-topic political discussion be kept to a minimum, so as to focus on the goal of this sub. This community is minimally moderated, so discussion and the power of upvotes/downvotes are allowed, provided lemmy.world rules are not broken.

Post links to instances of obvious Elon Musk fanboy brigading in default subreddits, lemmy/kbin communities/instances, astroturfing from Tesla/SpaceX/etc., or any articles critical of Musk, his ideas, unrealistic promises and timelines, or the working conditions at his companies.

Tesla-specific discussion can be posted here as well as our sister community /c/RealTesla.

Blue tweets are usually just people talking about crypto or shilling some fringe conspiracy. It is really is a useful metric for low value content.

I like to call it a "kick me" sing!

This article brought to you by March 2023.

Wonder what the update is.

oh

still can’t hide from Blue Blocker

That title reads like "x now let's premium subscribers verify their real IDs"

Wouldn't most people assume their ID is real? Or at least take it to their relevant government institution if they have doubts?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

I think it’s more that the average “verified” Blue subscriber just paid money and provided contact info, without actually providing ID at all. Now they’ll also verify an actual ID, and put some additional identifier next to your check to make you “more trustworthy.”

In other words, more Elon nonsense.

edit: in some cases, people just buy already verified accounts from a third party service. It’s a total joke from a verification standpoint.

I see. Thank you! That makes a lot more sense. They make it sound like an "opt-in" feature as opposed to a new (old) requirement

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

yeah, they have no idea what they’re doing, just trying to scrape in $ however they can with Elon’s latest deep thoughts, from a base of inherently suspicious people.

I'm sure they just mean you can use your actual government issued identification card to verify your identity, but the US has a form of identification called REAL ID that we are slowly being required to be compliant with.

Blue Blocker is a total success tho.

Blocking Twitter and X domains in your router is by far the better success. No longer accidentally find yourself on there.

I recommend privacy redirect and a Nitter instance!

I’m not there by accident. There are plenty of worthwhile people to follow there that aren’t anywhere else. It’s easy enough to filter out accounts you don’t want to be exposed to, see all the burns you want, and still not pay anything for it.

I checked the github thing and was hoping for an update on the stats but then realised I don't know how it works and went back go scrolling Lemmy like a hobo on a mission.
