You're comparing apples to oranges. Epstein was actually sentenced to 18 months. Swartz was facing charges that, on paper, could lead to a decades-long sentence, but there was no chance that he would actually receive a sentence that long. The plea deal they offered him was six months in prison.
Huh? Swartz was never sentenced. 50 years was the maximum sentence, but he was offered a plea deal for 6 months, which he rejected because he had good chances at trial.
Aaron was threatened with multiple decades to coerce him into taking the deal and giving the prosecutor the win they wanted.
