I saw a post about gaming unpopular opinions, one commenter said changing historically accurate video games for wokeness points, and one commenter said that anyone unironically complaining about wokeness has been brainwashed by the right.

I’ve seen this with historical dramas or even that Cleopatra documentary where people were complaining about changes to the stories or characters being for wokeness. But in the case of the Cleopatra documentary, the creator even said they changed the characters for political reasons, and that series was panned by almost everyone.

Of course, woke has a variety of interpretations, but in the sense of making changes for politically correct motivations, would critiquing it just be right wing brainwashing?

That isn’t at all to say it isn’t used as a right wing buzzword, as things like having a female or non white lead doesn’t automatically make something woke, Spiderverse being a great example, as that exists as just a story.

But is it extreme to think that it’s always brainwashing to complain about it being a problem?
