I might need a refresher, I remember Hermione and Harry being powerful in the books, with Hermione. more powerful, but Ron not so much equal on their level.

I don't think "power" in this case refers exclusively skill with a wand. Ron also had a lot of "wizarding street smarts" which proved invaluable to Harry and Hermione, as they were both raised by muggles.

That's a good point, and Harry's exposure to Ron's family is a huge reason why Harry retained a semblance of morality despite his heroic status.

what sort of wizarding Street smarts are you talking about?

In the books, Ron is the one who explains terms like "parselmouth" and "mudblood", and their associated connotations.
