Colonel Stone Johnson, born on the 9th of september in 1918, was a black worker in the civil rights movement who served as a bodyguard for homes, businesses, and people involved in the movement.

A railway worker and union representative by trade, he got involved in the civil rights movement in Birmingham, Alabama in the mid 1950s, working with Fred Shuttlesworth. He started a civil rights organization called the Civil Rights Guards that protected homes and business involved in the movement, usually while armed.

Among Johnson's notable acts was helping carry a Ku Klux Klan bomb away from Bethel Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL and serving as a bodyguard to Martin Luther King Jr. He also provided armed protection to non-violent activists in Anniston, Alabama during the 1961 Freedom Rides, rescuing them from a segregationist mob.

An oft-repeated remark of Johnson, when asked how he managed to protect civil rights leaders, given his commitment to non-violence, Johnson replied, "With my non-violent .38 special."

someone should make a hearing aid that is also a bluetooth headphone but like it pauses your music if someone is talking at you

Well the first thing exists, and the second is also a feature on some BT headsets, so no way this doesn't exist right?

redditor: i've lived a life of complete privilege, buying my own house in my early 20s and traveling abroad the past 15 years. i rented out that house to a single family, who have been the sole tenants the entire time, and who have never been late in payments nor caused me any trouble. anyway, because they've always been easy, we never established a more formal arrangement, and they are tenancy at will. even though i've been gone for 15 years and they have no reason to think i'll be coming back any time soon, and they have an entire life undisturbed in that house, and have hopes and plans no doubt with the tacit assumption that they will continue to live in that house, am i an asshole for evicting them with one month's notice?

chorus of redditors, smirking: you are not the asshole.

Used a new warp separator and new method of winding it on and I think it went really well cool-bean

I'll find out after a few inches of weaving if it actually works or just looks like it does

spoilerI know they're a rich country but that seems like a lot for six million people. Also surprising to see a rich country with textile exports like that

5609 light years from Earth, two stars are dancing around each other in a dust cloud.

As they dance and regularly get close to each other, they emit wonderfully regular smoke rings

I vaguely remember some "entrepreneur" type on Twitter who basically re-invented farming with his idea for making money. Anyone know of that and have the link?

It's so funny that when the Razzies voided Shelley Duvall's award they had some statement about Kubrick's treatment instead of the much more honest "it was a good performance in a masterpiece and we're all big fake dummies, our bad". Their statement isn't even an apology really, it's like a backhanded "oh we didn't realize there was a reason you sucked", and just ignores that she'a good in the Shining

If I was writing a book I would quote Hegel at length to make my writing look good in comparison.

Look at this sentence from The Phenomenology of SpiritNeither by the idea of submission to self-imposed laws, which would assign to it only a part of the whole work, nor by its being represented when legislation and universal action take place, does self-consciousness here let itself be cheated out of the actual realityβ€”the fact that itself lays down the law and itself accomplishes a universal and not a particular task.
