California Grunion Facts and Expected Runs

California grunion are small, silvery fish found only along the coast of Southern California and northern Baja California. Unlike other fish, grunion come completely out of the water to lay their eggs in the wet sand of the beach. Grunion make these excursions only on particular nights and with such regularity that the time of their arrival on the beach can be predicted a year in advance. This phenomenon can be seen on many beaches in Southern California.

When I was a kid - my family lived in LA a few years. I wonder why we never went to see it. Maybe I forgot something. It could be that my mom learned about it and wanted to take me but I complained over and over and over that it would be "boring and dumb". I got my way and we didn't go. Anything that didn't involve me laying on the couch brainlessly watching the tube was "boring and dumb". Looking back I really wish I hadn't been that way.

The female digs a hole in the sand after walking out of water and starts laying eggs then a bunch of males all frantically jiz on her and in the hole then walk back into the water.

Gestation period is one lunar cycle so the babies can get back into the water most easily. High tide to high tide. Nature is amazing. And also kinky
