You can embed memes into comments:

On kbin that looks exactly the same 😂
embeded

I assume you can expand the link to show the image in kbin? On lemmy you have to click on the link which takes you outside the platform:

Yes, that's it. And now I finally realise the difference between the two (since they obviously look identical here) 😂😂

If you want to check how things look here then visit this link: https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/post/3687506

But honestly, I wish lemmy also had an option to expand links if you don't want to take too much screenspace in the comments.

Huh, in that link it looks like even when I did it correctly in my second reply, it didn't embed.. 🤔

On this topic since you seem to know a bit about it - when folks from lemmy instances post stickers (I think they are?) they won't expand on kbin and I have to open those in a new tab, is that basically the same as what's going on here (the stickers don't embed)?

those are custom emojis and for some godforsaken reason they're implemented as inline markdown images and not as actual custom emojis the rest of the fedi had a standards extension/convention for years ago

I vaguely understand what that means lol (no need to explain in depth, I'm good). I guess it's all part and parcel of how the fediverse works..

Federation seems to work now.

I'd need to be aware of what I need to do for that to happen

Just so you know, your post is federating with my instance.
