5 years from now, there will be op-ed peices from young adults whose parents died in an Osprey crash during an interdiction operation to intercept good food from making its way north.

Not even a year into Sheinbaum’s term.

No one's even asking them to be so evil, they just figure it'll score them points if they get ahead of everything

Them being evil makes it easier for others to be evil.

Hey here's a thought: if you're being intellectually honest (they aren't), then why not cooperate with the Mexican government on their terms to deal with the criminal elements? You're not at war with their government, just the cartels, right? Riiiiiight?

[–] [email protected] 30 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Nope, the writer's deciding to kill them both and let God sort it out.

But because of the Mexican government’s complicity in cartel activities, going to war against the cartels will mean acting unilaterally, without the permission or cooperation of Mexican officialdom. We shouldn’t let that deter us. As a sovereign nation, the United States has the right and indeed the duty to secure our border. What that will entail, because the Mexican state is deeply corrupt and elements within it have been colluding with the cartels for years now, is ensuring the Mexican military and state and local police don’t interfere with our operations against the cartels.

Yep, American national chauvinism is on its way (eager to see the cartels fight their DEA funders)

Every war is justifiable until it's purpose is served, and then the consensus can become fair game.

I mean if they aren't hostile to us now, what's it going to take?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 months ago

Somehow this means further harassment of zapatista communities in Chiapas.

the superstructure has been priming the pump so hard for southern border hostility and war against the Mexican government. in the last years, I have seen multiple reactionary slop action-dramas foaming at the mouth for military incursion into Mexico.

also, its very important to remember than any complicity between officials in the Mexican government and cartel operatives is very different than complicity between cartel operatives and officials in the US government.

because the US are the good guys, the US is always providing arms, information, logistics support, materiel, and training to military and paramilitary forces that prioritize the US' interests above democracy, human rights, justice, peace, and anything else that gets in the way of the US based capital formations' profiteering that drives all policy.
