So I'm not Jewish; I just read a Wikipedia article on kosher and halal food and now think I know more than I really do about the subject. I read the sections on prohibited animals, etc. and just sort of went along with it. Then I got to this part:
If a vessel or implement used to cook dairy products is then used to cook meat, the food becomes non-kosher and the vessel or implement itself can no longer be used for... a kosher meal.
And I stopped. I'm assuming that rule is meant to prevent cross-contamination of some sort. But if that was the case, couldn't Jewish people simply wash their cookware in between dishes? That's what restaurants do when they cook for people with food allergies. (I realize that's not actually the same thing, but it's the closest thing I could think of.) Plus, there have surely been Jews who didn't have the money and/or cabinet space for a second pot.
