"The royal family did nothing to stop it", he said.

In June, a new study revealed that "Dutch rulers received the equivalent of €545m ($595m) in today's money between 1675 and 1770 from colonies where slavery was enforced".

It is good that he made this apology. "After acknowledgment and apology, we can work together on healing, reconciliation and restoration," the King added.

Heh, nice, subtle juxtaposition there.

Reminds me of this little something I saw on a traffic light in Utrecht the other day:

(In Dutch, sorry.)

Roughly:

I am the king
You are below
I got money as water
You are the water tap

You got big worries
I got another million
I am gonna tell you
How we are gonna do it together

Now let’s focus on reparations.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 2 years ago

Ahh yes apologies.... How about slavers, owners and their beneficiaries give up ill gotten gains...

In US, we have talks of reparations but the momenent someone suggests that slave owners and their estates and crotch fruit pay for it... Not the wage slave taxpayers, conversations is quickly stopped.

dAtS coMInism, pLz don't SaY it, my family dindu nuffing mayne, and if they did, slaves deserved it. Why do you hate private property?!
