Hi. I use 3 browsers. Opera GX for maintaining my YT channel and watching Youtube, Firefox for most other things (daily usage like writing this post, work and studies, with some accounts saved like my gmail or Reddit), and Tor as a glorified private browsing.

The reason for this separation between my YT in Opera and everything else in Firefox is to avoid anything from OperaGX (such as cookies) compromising my Firefox data, and vice versa. It wasn't until recently that I wondered, what is the extent to which a browser can compromise one's security?

Things I am somewhat aware of:

  • Malware downloaded through browsers
  • Personal data submitted willingly through browsers
  • Addons/plugins being compromised, and sending data on the browser to a third party (though I don't know the extent of this "data")
  • Data sent through the browser being returned to the browser provider (in my case, OperaGX, Mozilla, or Tor)
  • Internet provider can see what websites one has visited (circumventable by VPN?)

Things I am worried about but unsure whether I should be worried about:

  • The browser containing malware that reads data from my computer or other browsers

I would also like to know the things I should be worried about. Please let me know if more information is required.
