I think this may be a regional thing so for reference I love in Indiana.

For some reason almost everyone I know over the age of 55 says "warsh" instead of just "wash." My grandparents have said it like this my entire life, but now I'm starting to notice my parents and aunts and uncles do it too. I don't remember my mother ever saying "warsh" until the last few years.

Is there any explanation for this?
