I’ve read a lot of stories on r/AmItheAsshole where people have gotten into arguments because they asked someone’s salary or because someone else shared their salary with family or friends. Why does sharing a salary have such a negative connotation to it? I also remember this time from grade school when a boy got lectured by the guest speaker for asking her salary. I’ve never asked for anyone’s salary nor shared my own but if someone asked, why would it be a bad thing to tell them the truth?

Edit: I meant if a family member or friend who’s not a coworker were to ask.
