Damn, timely article. I've been at this job for a year and some change, and while it was a massive improvement from my last job in terms of the hygiene factors the author described, it's not motivating at all. I've been in a rut lately, and keep feeling like I shouldn't be as apathetic towards work as I have been lately.

Not having money causes unhappiness, but a higher paying job won't make you happy

I'm in a similar boat. I went back to college and landed a very good paying job with great benefits and hybrid work immediately after college but holy cow is the work dull. All I do is sit in the middle making adjustments to forms, reports and dashboards, and at that I'm mostly just a middleman passing instructions around for other people doing actual work!

The biggest challenge is that I live in a rural area so professional jobs like what I went to college for aren't super common, so you don't get much opportunity to be picky. On the upside though, I'm paid very well and have a great work-life balance so I can focus on myself and my family and pick up some new hobbies or dust off some old ones that I had to set down due to financial constraints.
