i know it's a misinfo post, but I wanted somewhere to put these thoughts:
just the other day, the USA was celebrating it's first men's gymnastic gold medal in 16 years, with praise especially going to Stephen Nedoroscik. But you didn't hear a single peep about how 'that's not a very american last name' or 'america probably doesn't deserve that medal' like you would if he was Asian American. just a subtle bit of sino/asia-phobia that comes around every olympics (and you'll see the same for any assumed 100% white country)
I feel like on some level the US doesn't deserve the medals this team might win. I really can't put my thoughts into a reasonable form though.
