He's the richest man in the world because thousands of older rich people are giving him their money. No matter how dumb you think he is, there is a vast sector of capital even dumber than him because they believe the stupid shit he sells them. His whole grift is convincing boomers that he's going to do the 1960s sci-fi tech they grew up with but never came real.
