My oven can't be left on. You always have to dial in a duration for how long it should be on, along with mode and temperature. Timer runs out, it turns off. It's a good safety feature.,

Unfortunately being used to that, every time I've used someone else's oven, I've forgotten to turn it off.

I do same with hobs now. My induction hob turns off when you remove the pan for more than 30s. I now leave hobs on when at others.

Better to be safe than sorry. That 0.0001% of the time where you actually do forget is enough to destroy a good chunk of if not your entire home.

How on earth would leaving an oven on destroy your home? It'd make it smell a bit at most

Depends on whether you store petrol in your oven

I left.the oven on for about 48hrs once when went away only damage was to my pocket from the electricity bill (and wasn't that bad as quite well insulated, was maybe about £30-40 (so double for the month) (few years ago)

Meanwhile me searching: "Is it ok to set the oven to cook something for a few hours then leave the house"

On the other hand, I have to go back 3 times to make sure I locked the door

Ive left on one oven plate over night one time. I had luck nothing stood on it. Now i never stack anything on them, i think this is a huge improvement safetywise.

I've absolutely left the oven on overnight a few times.
