It started out as ironic, and meant to make fun of PC gamer snobbery.
as an aside comment in a video, that's not a huge issue, tongue-in-check and all that
as the name of a long existing community that has ostensibly been against racism, it's very selfawarewolves
It was created after the reddit migration and there were "struggle sessions* in the beginning to get it to not use the name from Reddit.
But, alas, redditors
the guy who originally came up with it was definitely making fun of people like them, and might be a comrade (someone will correct me if I'm wrong), but they are libs so they didn't mind going with the literal nazi phrase unironically I guess
It's not like, the most egregious thing ever, I wouldn't assume someone's a nazi for using it but it's very insensitive and I would assume they aren't a comrade at least
Maybe not a comrade, definitely at least vaguely anti-capitalist. He has definitely explicitly pointed to capitalism as the problem before. Also, generally socially progressive. I mean not shocking, but people have come up with dumb reasons for negative trends in gaming before.
Yahtzee sure does love shitting on the broad effects of capitalism ruining games with potential. But in more of a jaded-old-man kind of way so it's usually not very direct.
