I've never understood how anyone could misinterpret what the song is about. It's the literal story of how a Vietnam Vet is abandoned and betrayed by society and the US government.
Because some idiots can listen to an entire song and only actually hear the words of the chorus. So they just heard "born in the USA" and filter the rest through their empty heads
Exactly. "Independence Day" by Marina McBride is the exact same way.
Don't bore us, get to the chorus!
I don't think most people pay close enough attention to song lyrics.
Evidenced by the parents letting their kids sing along with that lollipop song that was clearly about fellatio.
Like "Summer of 69" or "Every Breath you take".
