If you thought silent film was boring think again. There's something incredibly modern about Louise Brooks in this rollercoaster of sex and drama. The great Austrian director George W Pabst made this in Weimar Germany, recruiting Brooks from the US for her breakout role.

Pabst and Louise Brooks worked together on another film based on Tagebuch einer Verlorenen released 226 days after this one if you're interested.

I've only seen that once, a long time ago. I remember it as really depressing; is that accurate?

You're have to ask someone (besides yourself) who's seen the film. I haven't even read the book in english.

Since it's about a woman who witnesses a suicide, is raped, gets forced into a life of sexwork, and eventual husband offs himself, yeah "depressing" sounds about right. 🤔
