Newspaper is ok but it's a pain in the ass to place if there's the slightest bit of wind. I prefer cardboard.

I hit that paper with some hose mist and that kept it down well enough. I was using the paper in places with angles cardboard wasn't gonna handle gracefully.
Soak it as you put it down, works for cardboard and newspaper. Throw some mulch on top after and you've really got a stew going.
Add goat manure
idk if the ink they use is good for you if it leeches into the soil.
