"(and I voted for her)" Found the problem. In our democracy as long as people keep voting for senile representatives, there is no mechanism to remove them. So you are to blame for this, and you should have stopped voting for her around 2010. Or ideally never voted for her as she isn't actually a champion for civil rights.
