This one is going over my head

They’re referencing the Fallout video game franchise. There’s a government referred to as the New California Republic, and their flag has a bear with two heads. Two-headed creatures mutated by radiation is kind of a running joke in the Fallout universe.

For the lazy, here's the flag in question

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

And it does look better, as all two headed animals on flags do.

Eagle on flag?

Boring. Cliche. Possibly a Romeaboo, aka a cryptofascist.

Two headed eagle?

Majestic.

Twice as imperial.

Possibly a Byzaboo, the correct option, East Rome Best Rome.

Which east Rome? The south east, the north east, the north less east, or the north less east again but more fascist?

The one that dealt with their political enemies in the most humane and effective way, blinding and castration.

So. Fun fact. I've seen this tumblr post before (I mean given the amount of shit I have saved that's probably not a surprise) but I also had the exact same experience when I saw the post for the first time. I did not know that it was a real flag. I mean I'm Canadian so I have that excuse at least but damn.

I'm not on the west coast, but I've seen the flag plenty of times.

Doesnt matter. It still feels weird. Almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter.

almost like it's a reference to fallout or something...not like the post is literally about fallout...tf man

"Patrolling the Mohave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter"

It really feels empty without the second head, guess I gotta reinstall New Vegas now.

NGL a decade ago, I wanted a California flag too and was also disappointed that it wasn't a multi headed bear. Didn't even know it was Fallout.

The idea of the people who founded California in the 1800s deciding to draw a multi-headed abomination of a bear on their flag is hilarious.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

I mean the multiheaded eagle has been used on many flags dating further back than the 1800s. So, wouldn't be too absurd for there to be a flag with another double headed animal on it I suppose. Just not sure there is a such a bear in any mythologies those founders may have subscribed to.

Edit: spelling.

To be fair a two-headed bird is on many-a coat of arms.

Here's an example in the wild that I remember. Anime reviewer Glass Reflection (13:39) talking about an anime/gaming convention in California that he attended. He's Canadian so he gets a pass. No hate, just a funny mistake.

Bruh

It's a Fallout New Vegas reference.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Or maybe Fallout 2, where the NCR were first introduced.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

Oh yea, my wife who's from the US showed me this flag and I was like "That NCR flag looks weird" having only ever seen that flag in New Vegas.

Why does the bear look thirsty? He's got some weary side eye going on.
