Aw fuck. Absent the context provided by the internet, I missed all that stuff and only really listened to October Rust.
For reference, here's the quote I mentioned where he talked about Iraq:
Peter Steele was a land of contrasts. My [way too charitable] read was always that he was a bog-standard 90s shock rocker edgelord with Lawn Guy Land CHUD characteristics -- basically a 7-foot parrot that occasionally squawks out isolationist [paleo-]conservative talking points while earnestly believing that he is apolitical. This is just how a lot of dipshit GenXers were in the 90s. They get that Rush Limbaugh in 'em and they get all antsy in their pantsy.
Meanwhile, "I Don't Wanna Be Me" is so close to being a chronically depressed closeted trans/egg anthem that it's eyebrow-raising, given the source. I think one of our resident trans goth Maoists could have fixed him, but the mental age gap with a himbo like Pete might have been problematic.
It is sooooo fucking weird the singer from Agnostic front and the singer from Nausea are married and have a kid.
I could never get into a lot of NYC bands. Must be something in the air there.
There's like 5 good ones.
Agnostic Front is full of chuds, that's been known for years.
Sick of It All is cool though, they used to beat up Nazis and had a song about AIDS on their 1992 album Just Look Around.
He also wrote that song "Kill All the White People" but in an "ironic" racist/anti-black liberation sort of way.
Well goddamn
