Another mod sent me a link to Matrix. I gogoled the matrix.to stuff and people said it's malware, so im cautious? Is this how everyone mods? Or is there an easier built in option on Jerboa?

It's perfectly fine. It's basically a Fediverse WhatsApp or Discord with end-to-end encryption and no need to give out your phone number. Lemmy has it built in - if you add your Matrix ID to the relevant field in your settings it causes a button to appear on your profile offering secure direct messages.

It should be handy for mod teams as you can set up a space for the community and thrash out any issues.
