Russia charges Ukrainian singer Jamala in absentia for allegedly spreading 'false information' about Russian army (kyivindependent.com)

Jamala was put on a federal wanted list in mid-October and arrested in absentia by a Russian court earlier in November, but at the time, it was unclear for what specifically she was wanted.

Could someone explain the meaning of "arrested in absentia"?

I might be wrong, but I think that means that the court ruled them guilty without them being present during the verdict.

I've heard of being tried and convicted in absentia, e.g. Bush Convicted of War Crimes in Absentia (https://www.foreignpolicyjournal.com/2012/05/12/bush-convicted-of-war-crimes-in-absentia/).
