I'm still not sure what Riker's problem with this was. He'd normally be all for it.
Because it wasn't on his terms or with their free will and consent. My man fucks around but he fucks around respectfully.
Strong points that I agree with, but Q's temptations are also pretty weak when you remember holodecks exist.
Q keeps throwing "imaginary" women at Worf and Riker thinking that they can't go to the holodeck and load up any number of "Barkley's Follies" or "Beverly's ghosts with the most" programs.
Sure makes dealing with a trickster god that will ruin you less appealing.
Now you have me wondering if the holodeck programs are free for all, or if private simulations are possible. The social ramifications of either are profound.
The federation prioritizes rights like privacy, so I'm sure you can have private programs. It's a military vessel, so it's likely there are caveats, but I think "private" is probally the default.
I also think Barkley and The Dancing Doctor are freaky enough to publically share their porn.

If I realized they weren't real people and were just an extension of Q, I'd feel weird about it too.
I don't know, the 'not a real person' didn't really seem to affect him in the past...

I really like his exasperation at the computer for creating gangsters that want to shoot him while he is trying to relax in his Dixon Hill holonovel. Imagine trying to relax without violence in a noir detective novel. lol
