First, thanks for creating this community!

I liked about https://old.reddit.com/r/xkcd/ that you can expand the comic, even if the full URL was submitted (not just the image URL). This way, I could either peek the comic but stay where I am, or open the URL and still go to the XKCD site.

Recent example posts which do that:

  • xkcd 2794: Alphabet Notes
  • xkcd 2793: Garden Path Sentence
  • xkcd 2792: Summer Solstice

Here, posted comics look as if an image could be expanded, but it redirects me to XKCD instead.

Not sure how /r/xkcd did this. Any chance we can do a similar thing here?

I think what you're describing is a feature of whatever client you're using for reddit. (I know Relay does/did that, RES likely does so too).
If I use just a browser, the 2794 post that's on reddit is the same behavior as here: tiny preview, no peek, link straight to the page

Oh, you're right. I deleted my account yesterday, so deinstalling RES was only a logical next step. Yes, that seemed to be a RES feature.
