Well, Israel is bound by international law and is a (flawed) democracy. Doesn’t excuse them from wrongdoing though, but it makes things more gray than black.

Israel is decidedly not bound by international law, at least practically speaking. And the things they've done to Palestinians are way worse than most middle Eastern countries do to their people. Yeah, it's very much not complicated.
