Not particularly surprising that this was written just on the cusp of the neoliberal/neoconservative hegemony establishing itself in the 80’s. This sort of mentality was much easier to hold in that era when the combination of the horrors of fascism during WWII forced the right and the capitalist class to cool it a little, combined with needing to make the working class just comfortable enough to dissuade them from embracing communism. This only works if there’s larger political forces pushing towards equilibrium, and we don’t have that anymore.
Eh, idk. The link is the 5th edition. I've got a paperback of the fourth and it's the same. But, the original was written back in 1957, and like I said the whole book is like this. I think it's just a matter of white guy writes a book that just ignores the rest of America's experience.
