A magazine to ask questions (and get answers) about Kbin.

New to kbin. I’m trying to wrap my head around how federation works. If a community develops on a different server/instance than where I created my account, can I create threads and reply to others? Or just view? I read everywhere that federation allows following across different instances, but viewing content is different than participating in a community. If my account is on kbin.social can I create a thread or reply in a thread for a magazine that is in fedia.io?

Yep. If you don’t already have access to a particular instance, you can paste the address in the search bar (a la [email protected]) to gain access. Any posts other people make on that instance will eventually become accessible here, and any posts you make on their instance via kbin.social will do the same for them. The only exception is if an instance blocks access to other instances, like what happened between beehaw and lemmy.world.
