A spokesperson for Gov. Ron DeSantis said Friday that there are no plans for the Republican to meet with President Joe Biden when he travels to Florida on Saturday, contradicting comments Biden made earlier in the day indicating they would.

“We don’t have any plans for the Governor to meet with the President tomorrow,” DeSantis spokesperson Jeremy Redfern told CNN Friday. “In these rural communities, and so soon after impact, the security preparations alone that would go into setting up such a meeting would shut down ongoing recovery efforts.”

Biden had told CNN earlier Friday that “yes,” he did plan to meet with the Florida governor while surveying damage from Hurricane Idalia in the state over the weekend.

DeSantis doesn’t want photos of him next to Biden during the campaign, I bet. Whatever. Both of them simply need to understand the damage, try to instill some faith in the affected people, and make sure the necessary resources continue to get deployed.

Yup, he doesn't want to be Christie hugging Obama during Hurricane Sandy. It's a death-knell for conservative candidates to be seen not spitting in the face of the "opposition" at all times.

Nah, I'll thank every republican voter

Frankly they both just need to listen to FEMA and other agencies to know how bad it is, what is needed for funding, etc.

The whole "visit the scene" thing is theater.

A Leader needs to be seen to care for the People being led to have the faith to rebuild. Soulless bureaucrats in far away place to do not instill such faith.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Other agencies likely, but FEMA doesn't have a spotless record

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 years ago

No agency, person, organization, etc anywhere ever has a "spotless record".

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

I used to know a FEMA worker and he claimed that the tinfoil hat crowd reaches out to them about once a week on average.

Over-the-shoulder photo looking out of a helicopter.

"Hmm, yes, okay, I see now what you meant by disaster. Thank you for showing me."

[–] [email protected] -2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Oh Biden isn't listening to FEMA? Can you link me to an example of that?

They're asking you why you felt the need to "both sides" this as if Biden and desantis aren't listening to experts/playing politics, while Biden is doing everything correctly. It's disingenuous to act like the one person who is doing the right thing also needs to work on doing better, while the other is actively making it worse and trying to blame everyone but himself.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I didn't say anything like what you think I said. Take a breath, stop being a partisan hack, and read it again.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

IDK man it wasn't clear and I asked you a question. The way you reacted tho is fucking telling tho lol

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 years ago

Telling of what? You've misunderstood everything else. I'd be surprised if you got anything right

I didn't "both sides" anything. Only a partisan hack would see it that way.

Which if he had even the smallest of tiny brain cells, he would see that the ability to work with others you don't necessarily agree with should be seen as a strength. Only playground children behave like him.

[–] [email protected] 19 points 2 years ago

The trouble is many of DeSantis' supporters haven't evolved much beyond the playground.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

DeSantis’ whole platform is based on giving the finger to democrats (and humanity as a whole).

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 years ago

That isn't the way that culture behaves. You cooperate only when you are weak not to go further together. They are operating on a zero sum game with no statue of limitations on memory.

Look I have had my share of difficult clients but it is always in my best interest to make sure they are successful. If they are I can be. We cooperate because together we can do what neither of us can do alone. And since the relationship is not one of where I gain they lose we can do that.

However there can only be one president at a time. Biden looking good makes the MeatBall look bad. Even a temporary alliance can haunt the Meatball because everyone knows he only worked together because he had no choice. Cooperation reeks of weakness and since no allowance is given or sought he has to double down.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 years ago

what do you mean "both" "need to", Biden IS, DeSantis IS NOT, fuck fuck fuck fuck

[–] [email protected] -5 points 2 years ago (4 children)

Fuck that, Biden should pull funding the way Trump does for states that don't vote for him, fuck this shit

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 years ago

Congrats on having the same ethics as Donald Trump I guess?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago

Putting aside how petty this idea is; there are also people in Florida who didn't vote for Trump and you'd be fucking them over too.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 years ago

I would rather he didn't. Disaster relief shouldn't be tied to personal loyalty to a politician.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 years ago

Don’t be silly. A president is accountable and responsible for all Americans. One dope’s bullshit shouldn’t be balanced by the same bullshit from the next guy.
