My main issue with using a community-driven Nvidia driver (which is what reportedly Valve is hoping for on SteamOS) is the almost certain lack of support for DLSS.
Both the regular upscaling and ray reconstruction look years ahead of other similar scaling algorithms.
dxvk-nvapi said it can works on Mesa NVK. But I don't know whether DLSS feature works.
