I commited a blasphemy against a huge digital store with a monopoly that drives prices up in their niche, an unforgivable offence amongst PC gamers.
Lol you have no clue what you're talking about bud.
Steam doesn't force any of the games sold on its storefront to be exclusive to their store. Developers are completely within their power to publish their games to other marketplaces and, in fact, many titles are readily available elsewhere, such as GOG, Humble Bundle, Jolt, itch.io, Epic, and soon even Discord will have its own storefront. They are simply a marketplace; they don't have a monopoly just because they are the most popular marketplace. Not their fault developers don't like the non-DRM pushing spaces, which is the only complaint I have with Steam.
Meanwhile, you're comparing that to Nintendo which develops games in-house and deliberately keeps them exclusive to their proprietary consoles. Last I checked, I can't buy the new Mario Kart or Donkey Kong on my PS5 or PC.
You sound very confident for being wrong, which is about par for the course for libertarians. I won’t hold it against you, you probably don’t know any better.
Nintendo actually makes games to sell their hardware. I like companies that make games, games are fun. I won’t and didn’t defend Nintendo when they do shitty stuff.
Valve coasts on having a monopoly and works mostly on digital casinos these days. Having irrelevant competition doesn’t mean you don’t have a monopoly, you just need a dominant position that allows you to leverage it to hold on to it. It would be okay if they were some benevolent dictator but they use it to sell gambling apps to children while charging 30% for the privilege of selling your games on their store. Games would be cheaper if Valve didn’t have a monopoly.
golly i didn’t realize identity politics had such a large role in console preferences, TIL
What the fuck does economics have with idpol.
i reckon the disconnect came around the initial labeling. you GOTTA understand it’s not apolitical to call someone a libertarian in your opening line, right?
also you’re literally putting someone in a box as an opener. folks generally don’t like that.
like if this reply started with “par for the course for a centrist”, you wouldn’t think i’m a cool and understanding guy for saying it.
Approach to monopolies is a political thing and that was as free market approach as you can get. Guy self described himself as anarchist in the next comment so I was right to label him that.
i had no idea anarchist and libertarian were synonyms, TIL

if they felt the need to correct you, then your explanation of why they were wrong in doing so isn’t gonna tell me anything other than how stubborn you are.
i’m unsure of who you’re trying to convince what at this point.
I’m not really convincing that guy since I doubt he debates in good faith. He represents American brand of libertarianism - think Elon Musk simps. Old school libertarians like Adam Smith recognised that a free market doesn’t exist without state regulation.
At this point I’m just exposing how childish that American libertarianism is although it seems to be very popular amongst gamers and this community in particular. I don’t mind being inconvenient to people and I know it makes people pause since those mass downvotes say more about them than about me.
You are not exposing stuff. You are acting like a childish jerk who stubbornly ignores other people for your own sense of righteousness.
Doubling down and refusing to listen to others does not make you a better person in the long run.
You sound like your main issue is that I don’t attempt to fit in. You’ll have to deal with that.
No I don't care about that. I don't fit in either but actively being rude is not just not fitting in but being purposefully rude.
There is a difference and your refusal to acknowledge that is so that you can avoid having to look at yourself and your actions critically.
You don't have to change but there are repercussions from the existence of others seeing your actions and if you don't care about them do not expect others to care about you.
Can you point me to something I refuse to acknowledge specifically? Or is this as made up as things said in the other argument that I had here just now lol.
Can I be completely honest? The libertarian contested definition aside the thing that made me realize you were being purposefully obstinate and contrarian for your own giggles was;
Literally the definition of convenient is it being more accommodating or more comfortable or easy to do.
Having 2 ports on either side that charge and do data is incredibly convenient and much better than a singular since charging is a constant of all wireless electronics and this makes that process more convenient.
And then the person you were chatting to responded practically that and you bailed the conversation cause you couldn't be contrarian.
You are purposefully stubborn and acting in a way that doesn't make you even different it's just a similar as always level of self righteous.
I genuinely think this way, getting a kick out of pointing out hypocrisy is just a bonus.
As to USB-C location - port on top solves being able to charge while resting Switch on your knees but doesn’t solve the issue of how goofy the entire setup is in constrained spaces like on a train or plane and I’m speaking from experience.
i just think you’re assuming a lot from a few comments here.
e:like the line of thinking here, if i’m following, is that since he likes steam he’s JUST LIKE elon musk simps. that’s legitimately crazy.
I’ve been hanging around here for over a year, I know the vibe. Also autism and great pattern recognition.
so it’s >1 year that you get telepathy?
e: this is my last reply, this has been fun tho! please continue to exhibit this same 100% self-assurance in other threads, i tend to make a habit of talking to brick walls for funsies ^^
I’m both dumber and smarter than anyone realises. Saying things that lead to „told you so” is like going through motions now.
