THE POLICE PROBLEM

The police problem is that police are policed by the police. Cops are accountable only to other cops, which is no accountability at all.

99.9999% of police brutality, corruption, and misconduct is never investigated, never punished, never makes the news, so it's not on this page.

When cops are caught breaking the law, they're investigated by other cops. Details are kept quiet, the officers' names are withheld from public knowledge, and what info is eventually released is only what police choose to release — often nothing at all.

When police are fired — which is all too rare — they leave with 'law enforcement experience' and can easily find work in another police department nearby. It's called "Wandering Cops."

When police testify under oath, they lie so frequently that cops themselves have a joking term for it: "testilying." Yet it's almost unheard of for police to be punished or prosecuted for perjury.

Cops can and do get away with lawlessness, because cops protect other cops. If they don't, they aren't cops for long.

The legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" renders police officers invulnerable to lawsuits for almost anything they do. In practice, getting past 'qualified immunity' is so unlikely, it makes headlines when it happens.

All this is a path to a police state.

In a free society, police must always be under serious and skeptical public oversight, with non-cops and non-cronies in charge, issuing genuine punishment when warranted.

Police who break the law must be prosecuted like anyone else, promptly fired if guilty, and barred from ever working in law-enforcement again.

That's the solution.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement could run out of money as soon as next month amid the Trump administration’s ramped-up efforts to deport unauthorized immigrants.

While there are more than three months left in the fiscal year, one estimate has found that the agency is already $1 billion over budget, according to Axios. Legislators in both parties have raised concerns about the speed at which the agency is spending its funds, which may prompt President Donald Trump to seek additional funds from other agencies to support his deportation efforts.

Ways to hamper:

If you see a bunch of masked people without ID or uniforms wearing tacticool gear and carrying guns, call 911. Maybe the police won't care, but at least you'll be wasting their time, because they will have to roll out in force to check it out. Make fascists fight other fascists.
If you can open carry, do it. A dozen Gestapo are going to turn tail and flee when confronted by a crowd of armed citizens. If you can't open carry, bring "sporting equipment." Golf, baseball, and hockey are very popular.
Be loud and angry. "Being peaceful" and "being loud and angry" are not mutually exclusive.
Take video, and then post it. Invest in a dashcam for bonus points.
Even if you can't (or don't want to) do the above, show up. Your presence gives other citizens more power.
If you can't show up, that's also okay. Make room in your home for people who may need shelter. Have first aid and food/water at the ready. Most of the efforts required to win a war are not front line troops. Observe, look for opportunities to resist, and take them.
