landlording by definition is a profession though right? In the same way that being a hitman would also be a profession?

Maybe an unethical one, or one that negatively benefits society, but a profession nonetheless. Also the argument necessarily defines that everything that retains being a landlord, is a profession, except for landlording itself, so you've created a bit of a logical blackhole here.
