An online space for the vegans of Lemmy.

Rules and miscellaneous:

  1. We take for granted that if you engage in this community, you understand that veganism is about the animals. You either are vegan for the animals, or you are not (this is not to say that discussions about climate/environment/health are not allowed, of course)
  2. No omni/carnist apologists. This is not a place where to ask to be hand-holded into veganims. Omnis coddling/backpatting is not tolerated, nor are /r/DebateAVegan-like threads
  3. Use content warnings and NSFW tags for triggering content
  4. Circlejerking belongs to /c/vegancirclejerk
  5. All posts should abide by Lemmy's Code of Conduct

I used to think less about animals in the past, was generally 'human supremacist' about it and viewed most non-household pets as nothing more than food

Only recently I started becoming more aware, and I chose vegan options whenever possible, but Eid-Al-Adha came around and we bought two cows, one to keep the other for donations.

I slit the throats of both cows, and at first I got dizzy and was unable to keep praying along, and by the second I tried to focus on the scenery instead and not think about it too much

I don't know, it was a heavy experience, I went to wash my face but coming back to a bloody carcass and a detached head made me have a panic attack and I had to sit down to catch my breath

I don't think I will repeat it next year, but what am I even meant to do?

This is a group chat for the private message app Signal. I want to foster a community of privacy conscious vegans and just engage in casual and serious discussions. All fun! (Also to plot war) Usernames are now a thing on signal, and hiding your personal phone number is the default setting on Signal as well.

Come and join and say hi!

Animals are feeling sentient beings, there is worse effect to environments and the world with animal agriculture and there is much more water, land and resources used, and it isn't even better for our health. So we in our modern society do not need any of the things from animals. There is no good reason for people to not know about this, so all this should be communicated. People decide what to do themselves, and hopefully they will the right way.

Animal agriculture, roads and the transportation they are used for, climate change, and more from civilization contribute to many extinctions happening continually now. Humans do not need to be part of the destructiveness of their society to this world with their choices.

There is an established insanity of continuing to have animal products with thinking of having care for animals. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6940846/

This also coincides with the reintroduction of the FDA modernization act 3.0 into the house today. That bill would require the FDA to start work toward phasing out animal testing expanding on the passed FDA modernization act 2.0 act which only allowed them to do so, but did not require it

Unsure why the article talks exclusively about AI rather than other, much more rigorous, non-animal models like organs on a chip

It is good to stop using what there is from poor chickens with the demand for such continuing that, and the eggs from industries crushing the male chicks that they would not have use for. We only stop some abuse to animals when we stop our contribution.

A megafarm that would have reared almost 900,000 chickens and pigs at any one time has been blocked by councillors in Norfolk over climate change and environmental concerns.
