Left my steam deck on an airplane because I'm a dumbass (and I was trying to get my 3 kids off the plane) was hoping the airline people grabbed it, did the missing item report... Then someone started playing it ... Contacted steam changed my PW... Probably buy another one when I pay off my credit card again, but there's a vacation worth of Blue Prince process that day didn't make it the the cloud and my burnout 3 emulation saves... Can only blame myself... I feel worse than a madman... At least I still have balatro on my MacBook time to chase c+ and c++... Sorry for the rant but had to find some abyss to shout to...

So about 2 months ago I made the decision to purchase the 1TB OLED Steam Deck.

I consider it almost perfect, just wish it was designed with the 2280 ssd driver instead of the 2230, and also the current position of the 2230 is pointing upwards instead of sideways like the previous Steam Deck design making it harder to mod with a 2280 for more storage.

While gaming on it, I realised that my secondary PC that I use just for sim racing, is pointless to keep, and taking up too much space beside the TV. I have considered replacing it with a mini PC once the AMD APUs become powerful enough, but after experiencing the SteamOS, I think the handheld is the way to go. It makes it so easy to start your games.

Since buying the SteamDeck, I have installed EmulationStation, I have not tried installing Jellyfin and connecting it to my NAS but I'm sure it is not a problem.

I just hope in 2 to 3 years, AMD's APUs will be powerful enough to do 1440p at around 60 fps, my sim racing PC has a 5600 cpu and a 6700 XT and it can do 60 to 100 fps at 1440p depending on the game (AC, ACC, Dirt Rally 2, Forza Horizon 4, etc.), and it handles my PSVR2 quite well.

So, for those who want budget PC gaming, it might be best to just buy an handheld, get a monitor and a dock, keyboard and mouse, and you are good. If you have some extra money, upgrade your ssd, or build a NAS to future proof yourself a bit.

Get a new handheld every 3 to 5 years or so. It costs around the same as a mini PC, similar performance.

With handhelds cannibalising some of the budget PC market, I think we might see the end of budget GPUs, the future will be APUs, then mid and high tier GPUs for high performance PCs.

On a side note, I bought the JSAUX Mod Case to protect the Steam Deck from impact, I occasionally take it with me in my backpack to work. Because of this, it does not fit on the Steam Dock anymore, are there aftermarket docks that work well with Steam Deck protective shells?

I bought my OG deck on release and it's worked super consistently since, but naturally accumulated some small issues from constant use. Though I'm far past my year long warranty, they walked me through many of my problems in one message super concisely, and they only took about 2 hours to respond. The only problem left over was my L bumper, which would have been somewhat expensive to RMA, as I'm WAY out of warranty, but they showed me that even the little plastic part that was broken was sold on I-fixit, and was really cheap too for the part I needed. And to top it all off, in my first message I mentioned that my case broke a while ago, because I was worried if that mattered for RMA if I sent it inside the cheap one I had to replace it with. In the very next message, they told me that they already ordered me a new one free of charge, even way after warranty! I love the fact that they care enough to give us all the tools we need to keep the Deck protected and in working good condition for years after we bought it. Putting my trust in Valve and buying a deck was pretty much the best decision in gaming I've ever made.

Hello fellow Fan Sniffers. I would like to ask this wonderful community what plugins are you using to make your life with the deck more custom and colorful. I would like to know what plugins are "Hot" now and why? So then i can choose what to install as well.

Thank you!!! A lot! :)

Due to the high volume of very similar posts asking what r/SteamDeck users were playing, this weekly megathread has been created to have a singular place to hold this very frequent discussion and limit duplicate posts. Feel free to share what you have been playing on your Steam Deck or even post pictures in this thread and show us if you wish!
