So I’ve never owned a proper PC, i only have owned macs so i have legit no reference for how good the hardware is, but ive never dropped below 60fps in online games like guilty gear strive or never noticed it and it got me curious about how this holds up against other hardware. So like what is the difference between the steam deck and a gaming PC?

Having owned my steam deck for just a week at this point, I can already tell it is a significantly better than the ally. The user experience is leaps and bounds more intuitive, particularly in the fact that I don’t have to play games through windows. The steam deck feels like a console, especially the pick up and playability of it (which is preferable in handheld format). Using the ally was a slog from logging into windows and then loading the games. Additionally, even though the steam deck is comparatively underpowered compared to the ally it runs games just as well or even better!

If you’re buying a handheld computer you’re buying it for its portability and usability (pick up and play). Why else would you except a smaller screen and humble specs. If you got here because you’re trying to figure out which handheld computer to buy… just get a steam deck bro.

Been messing around with emulation on the Steam Deck again, so I decided to make an updated walkthrough of the setup process. Quite a lot has changed since the last time I covered it, and I tried to make it as beginner-friendly as possible.

Ive been watning to scratch my MMO itch and am getting into GW2. I tried on the deck and even with community layouts, it just feels so hard to play. So many weird buttons to remember, I struggle to do something basic. I see a lot of posts of people playing MMOs with it and seem to love it.

Am I the minority that finds it extremely difficult or am I in a 'gitgud' situation?

i just wanted to say the game runs pretty amazing IF u force proton compatibility (i always default to proton experimental and it seems to work out) if u don't force compatibility the games performance is meh at best. runs fine most times and theres weird bugs with the lighting and crashed semi often in my experience. if im not mistaken if u force proton it will download the windows version? which is said to be a lot more refined version of the game vs the linux version. i also run a bunch of steam workshop mods and the game still runs great! settings i use personally are High for Shaders,Models, and Textures. Water Detail High , Shadow Detail medium V sync enabled and the rest set to low. just wanted to put this out there cuz i myself didn't know to force compatibility until recently and enjoyment skyrocketed post proton compatibility.

What a great experience. I’m playing it again for the first time in ages and with the 60 fps patch it runs like an absolute dream and looks magnificent.

A+ Steam Deck game.

edit - the patch I’m talking about is the V-Patch, which unlocks the framerate. I limited it to 60 fps for stability through SteamOS. Follow the instructions here, it’s ez pz:

(also as one comment notes, copy both the .dll and the plugins folder)

"We’re excited to announce that the game now offers full support for Steam Deck and Linux!

Steam Deck users can enjoy dedicated graphics presets designed to provide a smooth and comfortable experience right out of the box.

It’s the perfect time to try the game on your favorite device!

We’re also actively working on the macOS version — stay tuned for updates!

To download the latest updates for Steam Deck, go to the game’s properties, open the “Compatibility” section, select “Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool,” and choose “Steam Linux Runtime” from the drop-down list.

P.S. The green “Full Steam Deck Compatibility” status will appear on the game’s Steam page soon."
